Rama: People from our party are being held accountable before justice

Prime Minister Edi Rama, from Madrid where he signed the agreement for the organization of the "World Law Congress Albania 2027", the World Law Congress in 2027 in Albania, praised the justice reform.

The head of government said that this reform brought about the cleansing of the justice system from corrupt judges and prosecutors.

Today, Rama said, "the judiciary is no longer in the hands of politics and we need to be witnesses to this by seeing people from our party, from our majority, being held accountable before justice."

Edi Rama : On the other hand, I want to say that we have gone through an extraordinary justice reform, an extraordinary cleansing of our justice system from corrupt judges and prosecutors. The revaluation process has received a lot of attention and respect in Europe and has been essential for us to move forward and for the first time since we have a state and we are a young state, we became independent from the Ottoman Empire only in 1912, we now have a judiciary that is no longer in the hands of politics and we need to witness this by seeing people from our party, from our majority, being held accountable before the justice system.

So we knew this and we do not regret it, otherwise we will push as much as possible so that finally, the rule of law will be the common denominator of society. Of course, there are many temptations today, especially in the western part of Europe, to think about leaving the European Union, about closing the borders, about returning to the old customs borders where each country was its own, and so on, and I often have to answer the question of what plan B does Albania have?

The European Union being our plan A and I answer convincingly, very convincingly that there is no plan B for us, because to have a plan B against the European Union is to have a plan B against individual freedom, it is to have a plan B against the rule of law, it is to have a plan B against democracy and if you have a plan B against these three, then you will be condemned to live in a category B society, for many people where there are winners and where there are losers and we do not want this. We want a country where everyone is given the opportunity to win and where no one can win at the expense of someone else and this can only happen if we persistently implement individual freedoms, the rule of law and democracy.
