Medical helicopter crashes, killing all 5 people on board

A medical helicopter has crashed in a remote area of ​​Sarawak, on the Malaysian part of the island of Borneo, killing all five people on board.

The helicopter was on a mission for the "Flying Doctor Service", which provides healthcare to isolated communities in the region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, September 8, near the runway of the small Long Lellang STOLport airport, in the Ulu Baram area, inland Sarawak.

The helicopter was a BO-105 and was carrying out a medical mission when it crashed. After the crash, the vehicle caught fire.

According to local authorities, all five people on board were killed. The victims were the pilot, a doctor, a medical assistant and two nurses.

The helicopter crashed about 315 kilometers southeast of the city of Miri, in an area difficult to access due to the terrain.

Disaster management authorities in Miri confirmed the death of all people on board, while fire and rescue teams were deployed to the scene.

The cause of the crash is still unknown. Malaysian authorities have launched an investigation to determine what happened during the flight and whether there were technical problems or other factors that led to the accident.

The Flying Doctor Service is used to transport medical personnel to indigenous communities in remote areas of Sarawak. In these regions, land routes are limited and air transport is one of the main ways to provide health services.
