Romania takes over SEECP, RCC: Time for less statements and more results in the Balkans

Bucharest – The Romanian Chairmanship of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) could mark a new phase of practical cooperation in the region. This was the message of the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Amer Kapetanović, during his official visit to Bucharest.
At the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Oana Țoiu, the priorities of the Romanian SEECP Chairmanship and ways to accelerate regional initiatives in areas such as economic development, connectivity, security, sustainability and European integration were discussed.
"Bucharest takes over the SEECP Chairmanship at a time when the region needs cooperation that produces concrete results. We no longer need declarations disconnected from implementation, but stronger economies, better connections and opportunities that citizens can feel in their daily lives," said Kapetanović.
He praised Romania's experience and institutional capacities, emphasizing that the RCC is ready to support the Romanian Chairmanship in transforming political priorities into concrete projects and measurable results.
For her part, Minister Țoiu confirmed Romania's commitment to an active and results-oriented Presidency, with a focus on strengthening cooperation between the countries of the region and promoting projects with a direct impact on citizens.
During his visit to Bucharest, Kapetanović also held meetings with the Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clara Staicu, and participated in a roundtable with representatives of ministries, Parliament and key Romanian institutions.
Discussions focused on the implementation of the SEE 2030 Strategy, the Regional Common Market and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, as well as cooperation in the economy, digitalization, tourism, security, border management, civil protection, hybrid threats, security sector reform, youth policy and demographic challenges.
Participants also reviewed projects that could be advanced during the Romanian SEECP Chairmanship, with the aim of strengthening institutional cooperation and bringing concrete results for the countries of Southeastern Europe.
Romania assumed the SEECP Chairmanship following the Summit held in June 2026 in Sofia, where the region's leaders adopted the RCC Annual Report and the mid-term update of the SEE 2030 Strategy, reaffirming the commitment to stability, security and sustainable development in Europe.
