The lower divisions of Albanian football often produce strange episodes. One of them comes today in the match between Maliqi and Delvina.
Markelian Alinani, the coach of the Delvina team (known for decades as "Bistrica"), was detained on Tuesday of this week (March 4, 2025), by order of the Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office, as being involved in a structured criminal group that was active in drug trafficking.
In the absence of the coach, it was noticed at Maliq's "Jovan Asko" stadium that the team doctor was also acting as the coach for the visitors.
In addition to entering the field when he needs to provide medical assistance, he also guides Delvina's players in the Second Category.
We recall that Markelian Alinani, a former footballer for the Bistrica team in Delvina, has been mentioned several times in the police chronicle.
In 2012, when he was around 35 years old, he was arrested as part of a group that was trafficking cannabis from Lazarat to Saranda.
In 2021, Markelian Alinani was arrested again by order of the Special Prosecution Office, this time under suspicion of being involved in the criminal offense of “ fixing sports matches .” Alinani’s name appeared during a SPAK investigation into former Saranda prosecutor Sali Hasa.
Now, he has been detained again, following an investigation initially launched by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK), which then passed the case on to the Gjirokastra prosecution.
