Uljan Shpataraku, Jeton Lami, Muçi Shaljani/ What drives senior police officials to become escorts for crime bosses? - Shekulli
The arrest of the much-wanted Ergys Agasi, yesterday evening in the Plepave area of Durrës, in a vehicle driven by former senior police official Uljan Shpataraku, once again brings to attention the stories of officers linked to high-ranking crime figures.
Shpataraku, one of the most powerful people in the ranks of the State Police, at the time it was led by Ilir Proda, was expelled immediately after Skënder Hita came to office. It seems that he has not been sitting idly by in these months. After being implicated in a conflict with the staff of a hotel in the south of the country, after he did not like the service, he was declared wanted by the Police, on charges of intimidation.
However, this did not prevent him from indirectly accusing Hita of revenge and personal attacks from the escape, while history showed that in fact the current police director was right to dismiss him. Shpataraku has already been put in handcuffs, on charges of supporting the perpetrator of the crime, while his connection to Agas remains unclear, and what drives a former senior police officer to serve as an escort for a businessman wanted by the Special Prosecution. But Shpataraku's case is unfortunately not the only one...
The media has repeatedly reported on officers linked to organized crime segments, while another case, one of the most sensational, was that of Jeton Lam , the last person to see gambling boss Ervis Martinaj alive. Lami, a former officer of the operational forces, served as an escort for Ervis Martinaj, and there were even suspicions that he may have been implicated in his disappearance. Lam's name also came to the fore after the murder of Brilant Martinaj, in a terrifying assassination attempt near the Fushë Krujë overpass.
The prosecution's file raised suspicions, which have not yet been proven, that Lami may have provided information to opponents that later led to the assassination attempt with three victims, where Brilant Martinaj, Dikler Vata and Besmir Hoxha lost their lives. Lami was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison by the Lezha Court on charges of abuse of office, and remained in prison for about 15 months. But even after the end of his sentence for abuse of office, Lami has been involved in several other criminal events in the country, including fines, and the placement of a quantity of TNT in a bar in the Kamza area.
Muçi Shaljani is also one of the State Police officers, an employee of the Police Supervision Agency, who was exposed to a serious criminal incident. He was seriously injured, and later died in hospital, after the assassination attempt in Rinas, to eliminate Gilmando Dani. The latter, widely known as Emiljano Shullazi's friend, was killed on the spot, immediately after arriving from a trip from Spain, where he was in the company of Shaljani. The latter's involvement in a friendship with Dani, and the criteria for his employment, caused a series of investigations and suspensions within the ranks of the AMP.
But despite specific cases and sporadic investigations by the Police Supervision Agency, the 'corrupt' elements in the ranks of the State Police seem to be still present, while the position they hold in the state serves to open the doors of connections with characters from the criminal world. / SHEKULLI
