The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing to impose broad sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), in a further escalation of Washington's clash with the Hague-based court, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing documents and US officials.
The measures would reportedly halt most transactions with the ICC after a six- to seven-month transition period. If implemented as reported, they could directly affect the court's finances and day-to-day operations.
One of the main consequences would be a restriction on the court's ability to conduct transactions in US dollars, which could cut it off from a significant part of the global financial system. Banks and companies that depend on the US financial system could also face restrictions in their dealings with the ICC.
