Massive fire on the Gargano Peninsula, tourists evacuated from popular Italian beaches

A large fire has engulfed the Gargano Peninsula area in Italy, near the Gulf of Manacor, forcing authorities to evacuate tourists from several beaches and tourist structures in the Peschici and Vieste areas.
The flames broke out in rural and suburban areas of the municipality of Peschici, in the province of Foggia, and spread rapidly towards the coast, favored by high temperatures and strong southwesterly winds.
Tourists were evacuated from beaches with the help of coast guard boats, while campsites and resorts near the coastline were evacuated as the flames approached. So far, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Two Canadair firefighting aircraft have been deployed in the firefighting operation, along with civil defense teams and firefighters who are working to isolate active fires.
The situation has also affected areas near Lower Molise, bordering Gargano. Twenty-one elderly people from a care center have been temporarily relocated to other facilities for their safety.
Thick smoke was seen from several kilometers away from the coast, while the spread of the fire has also caused difficulties in road and rail traffic due to reduced visibility.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while teams on the ground are trying to contain the further spread of the flames in one of Italy's most popular tourist areas.
