Italy/ Murder of 18-year-old Pakistani woman, prosecution seeks life sentence for 5 family members: Inhuman and barbaric act

The Bologna General Prosecutor's Office has requested life imprisonment for all five family members accused of the murder of Saman Abbas, the 18-year-old of Pakistani origin killed on the night between April 30 and May 1, 2021 in the village of Novellara: father, mother, uncle and two cousins.
The young woman's body was found buried inside a farmhouse in Novellara only in November 2022.
Knowledge of all aggravating circumstances, premeditation and frivolous motives, and family connection were also required.
At the conclusion of the indictment in the appeal process, prosecutor Silvia Marzocchi requested from the Court a sentence "that restores to Samani the role of the victim of an inhuman and barbaric act, committed in the execution of a death sentence by the entire family."
Therefore, the prosecution supported the existence of the crimes of murder and crushing of the corpse with the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and worthless and futile motives, reaching the request for a sentence of life imprisonment with one year of daily isolation for all five members of the victim's family.
In the first instance, the Assizes Court of Reggio Emilia had sentenced the two parents, Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheen, to life imprisonment, acquitting them of the charge of murdering a corpse, their uncle Danish Hasnain with 14 years and had acquitted and released the two cousins, Nomanhulaqem Nomanhulaqm.
In the first instance, the father and mother were sentenced to life imprisonment (the wife was still on the run in Pakistan), the uncle to 14 years, while the cousins were found not guilty. At last Friday's hearing, prosecutor Marzocchi underlined:
“Saman was condemned by the entire family.” And in the first instance sentence he had said: “More words should have been written to restore the inhumanity, cruelty, context and manner of the murder of this young girl, and fewer words were necessary, compared to those written in the essential motive, to objectively assess all the facts and to compose them following a linear, logical and procedural reason of rigorous evidence.”
