A new Egyptian proposal to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has been revealed by the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, which cites an Egyptian source.
The proposal calls for the release of eight hostages in exchange for a temporary ceasefire of 40 to 70 days.
According to the same source, the Egyptian proposal attempts to bridge the gap between Hamas's proposal, which offered the release of five hostages in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire, and the Israeli demand for the release of eleven live hostages.
As the report notes, the eight hostages will not be released all at once, but gradually.
So far, neither side has provided a definitive response to the proposal.
