176 World War II bombs discovered in children's park

A total of 176 World War II bombs have been discovered at Scotts Park, Wooler, England, during excavations for a new park. It is suspected that the area served as a training ground for the National Guard and the munitions were buried after the war.
Workers discovered a suspicious object, which was later confirmed to be a bomb. After that, the Ministry of Defense ordered a full inspection, where 175 more bombs were discovered.
Experts showed that the bombs were not active, but still contained a dangerous payload. "It's unbelievable that children have been playing with them for so many years," said councillor Mark Mather.
The excavations will continue until mid-February. The costs of removing the munitions will be covered by Northumberland County Council, after the army declined to help. “It was disappointing not to have their support, but at least the park will not be lost,” Mather added.
