"We will not recognize Kosovo"/ Rama writes to Zelensky: Noisy nationalists reacted against Ukraine, but we are not affected

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statement in Belgrade, where the latter stated that Ukraine will not recognize Kosovo.

In a post on the social network X, Rama defends Albania's continued support for Ukraine, emphasizing that the stance against Russian aggression and in favor of freedom cannot be conditioned by Kiev's stance on Kosovo.

Reaction:

My dear friend, Volodymyr Zelensky, stood in Belgrade and said that Ukraine would never recognize Kosovo. Within an hour, the most vocal folkloric nationalists in Tirana and Pristina had already started making geopolitical calculations: maybe we should punish Ukraine, stop cheering for the free and mourning for the bombed. The most reckless of them attacked us for not giving up Ukraine. Some even cheered for Russia!

What a shame to lose sight of the simple truth that freedom does not work with returns. Standing against a war of aggression and in support of a just peace is not a bill you tear up as soon as the victim of a barbaric aggression disappoints you. It is not a favor exchanged for a favor, but it is who you are and what you stand for in this messy world.

And fortunately, Albania is not a small man calculating who owes whom, but is the Europe of the Balkans, showing the way through its belief in freedom, democracy and peace, as well as through the strength of its example.

Ukraine may be, and yes, it is wrong for Kosovo, but its right to be free remains indisputable. And to fight for this right means to fight for both Europe and ourselves. These truths can coexist quite well in the same sentence. Albania is mature enough to hold both and will hold both.

Therefore, yes: LONG LIVE FREE UKRAINE! Today, tomorrow and forever.
