Eclipse "interrupts" football in England, matches postponed

The solar eclipse is affecting professional sports, but amateur football is also affected, as was seen with AFC Turnford, in the seventh tier of English football, whose match was postponed on Wednesday.

With no pitch lighting as darkness falls across England, the Hertfordshire Football League, north of London, decided to reschedule the match against Cuffley FC for a later date.

"That's the way it is; there's not much we can do about it. We were told: 'If you don't have indoor lighting, you have to postpone your game,'" Ronnie Bates, the club's founder and player, explained to the BBC.

These cases have multiplied in the lower divisions across the Channel. The match between Kent United and Equinoccial FC (also in the Seventh Division) suffered the same fate: the pitch will be very dark due to the astronomical phenomenon and the match has been postponed until August 15.

Also in Kent, Aylesford FC rescheduled its match, pending a later date.
