San Diego mosque shooting: Who is the hero who sacrificed his life to save others?

A shooting at a mosque in San Diego, California, has left three people dead, including a security guard who police say acted heroically to prevent a more tragic incident. The main victim, described as a hero, is Amin Abdullah, a father of eight who had served at the Islamic center for more than a decade. Authorities and community representatives say his actions during the attack helped save other lives.
"It's fair to say his actions were heroic. Without a doubt, he saved lives today," said San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl.
According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations in San Diego (CAIR-SD), Abdullah was a well-loved figure in the community, known for his open and welcoming demeanor toward mosque visitors.
"He was a true light, always smiling and accepting of everyone," said a representative of the organization.
Two other believers, identified as Mansour Kaziha and Nader Awad, who according to the community were helping to maintain the center and its activities, also died in the attack.
The incident occurred around noon on Monday after police received a report of two young suspects, who were later identified as the perpetrators of the attack. They were found dead a short time later from self-inflicted wounds.
Authorities are investigating the incident as a hate-motivated attack, and have stated that they are also examining the role of "hateful rhetoric" in the incident.
In the US, the incident has sparked strong political reactions. Vice President JD Vance called the attack "disgusting" and called for unity and dialogue, condemning political violence in the country.
Meanwhile, an online fundraising campaign has been launched for the family of the main victim, which has raised over $1.6 million in support.
