Southampton have been eliminated from the Championship play-offs for promotion to the top flight. The reason for this is a scandal in which rivals were spied on in training.

Middlesbrough have returned to the competition after a shock decision by an independent panel, which reviewed the matter on Tuesday, and will now face Hull City in the play-off final in four days, on Saturday 23 May.

Furthermore, Southampton has been punished with a four-point deduction for next season.

The Saints will now miss out on taking part in what has been dubbed the most lucrative match in world football, with the winner of the play-off final securing at least £110m in Premier League television revenue.
