European Commission's plan for countermeasures to Trump tariffs: 25% on certain products!

The European Commission is proposing to impose 25% tariffs on a range of US products in response to President Donald Trump's decision to reimpose tariffs on steel and aluminium, according to a document seen by Reuters.
According to the document, the first tariffs are expected to take effect on May 16, while a second wave will follow on December 1, 2025. Meanwhile, 'Bourbon' whiskey was removed from the initial list being considered by the European Union.
Earlier, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen clarified the EU's position, saying that "Europe is always ready for a good deal. We keep it on the table. But we are also ready to respond through countermeasures and to defend our interests. We will also protect ourselves against indirect effects by diversifying our trade."
In this context, the Commission announced the establishment of a working group to monitor imports, with the aim of timely identifying phenomena of export diversion from third countries that may require the channeling of products to the European market, bypassing American barriers.
