New York Mayor Attacks Netanyahu Again: He Should Be Arrested When He Comes to the US

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has repeated his criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, just moments after meeting with US President Donald Trump in New York.

In an interview with CNN, Mamdani called Netanyahu a "war criminal" and said he must face responsibility for the war in Gaza.

"As for Benjamin Netanyahu, I have described him as I believe he is, a war criminal and the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people," Mamdani declared.

The New York mayor said the issue was also discussed during his meeting with Trump at Gracie Mansion. Mamdani, who for months had said he would arrest Netanyahu if he visited New York, has now admitted he does not have the legal authority to do so.

Referring to the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu, Mamdani said it must be respected.

"I think that's something that needs to be respected, because what we want to see - and this is what we talked about today - is loyalty to our policy and loyalty to accountability," he said.

"If the International Criminal Court deems someone worthy of arrest for violating these laws, then who are we to say that anyone should be above them? I clearly believe that everyone should be held accountable," Mamdani added.

Netanyahu is expected to address the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the meeting between Trump and Mamdani was considered unexpected, given the strong political differences that the two politicians have previously displayed.

During the meeting, they discussed, among other things, immigration policies and a major multi-billion dollar housing program for New York.

Trump appeared positive towards the city's new mayor, telling him during a press conference that he hoped he would be a "great mayor" and that he had made a good start.

For his part, Mamdani said he appreciated the US president's commitment to New York, despite the differences between them.

"We appreciate the president's commitment to the city. We have both spoken of very different approaches and beliefs, but I will continue to have conversations with the president and, frankly, with anyone who can provide relief to the residents of this city," he said.
