Reinforcement of the foundations of the bridge over the Mat River, authorities restrict the movement of heavy vehicles

The bridge over the Mat River, on the Lezhë-Milot national axis, has been placed under restriction for heavy tonnage vehicles.
The Albanian Road Authority, in cooperation with the Road Police, has placed concrete barriers on both sides of the bridge to prevent the passage of vehicles that exceed the permitted weight of 13 tons.
The measure comes after emergency intervention carried out several months ago to reinforce the bridge's foundations. Despite the signage, field monitoring has identified repeated violations of the restriction by heavy vehicles.
Meanwhile, vehicle drivers say that the structure continues to have problems and raise doubts about the quality of the investment.
The Albanian Road Authority explains that the restriction is not related to any failure or damage to the bridge, but is a preventive measure to protect the intervention carried out on the foundations and guarantee the long-term stability of the structure.
For the reconstruction and reinforcement of the 844-meter-long Mati Bridge, an emergency fund of 107 million new lek was allocated, while the works lasted about 8 months.
