The painter has resigned, but the "Alliance of Stinks" does not

Last night I participated in the Albanian youth protest in Tirana.

It's a strange feeling to be in the midst of that vortex of youthful anger, a vortex that has deepened over thirty-six years, as long as the neo-communism that still rules Albania has lasted.

In that turbulent sea of anger and impatience towards a three-decade political mess, the most special protesters seemed to me to be those employed in the public administration, who, in passing, demanded the resignation of "Enver the Second" - the Painter, only to then continue on their way as if they had not participated in the protest at all.

Being part of the most beautiful event that has ever happened to Albania, I couldn't avoid the question: What kind of person and what kind of Albanian do you have to be to not feel that youthful anger at someone who doesn't love you, who doesn't trust you, whose dreams you've killed, and yet not resign?

Then, wanting to at least somewhat excuse the Painter and not place him among the rulers thirsty for even a little blood of protesters, provoking them to become what they should absolutely not allow to become – violent – I said to my friend, with whom I was participating in the protest:

"I can't believe that the Painter hasn't resigned, but the 'Alliance of Stinks' certainly doesn't approve of it."

Even though I have been in an open war against Piktor for ten years, last night I wanted to believe that his facial skin has not thickened so much that he does not feel bad when he hears that Albanian youth curse him and treat him as the symbol of the political elites who extorted and destroyed Albania.

Yes, last night I was among the protesters in Tirana and I finally realized that this protest will not fail, because it, even with what it has done so far, showed Albanians how the homeland is protected from those who know how to rule the people, but have no power over the thief within themselves.

So, last night I was convinced that Piktori has fallen, but they haven't announced it yet; that he has resigned, but the 'Alliance of Stinks', made up of criminals, the drug mafia, media owners, oligarchs, "independent debaters", scoundrels and international architects who seek the "desert" to experiment..., does not approve his resignation.

So, even though I know many people will think I want to drool over him, I felt sorry for the Painter last night.

And so I asked myself: How could not even one of his supporters from the ranks of 'Rilindja' be found to tell him that it is not because we love him that we criticize him, nor because the youth that protests tell him, but that he himself chose to grow old with a face of shame. (Kim Mehmeti)
