In its manifestation, the protest exposes episodes and speeches that are even antagonistic in their meaning. That's how it is. Multicolored, heterogeneous.
It would not be sustainable if it were a party. It stands around unifying demands and its mission to remove the autocratic caste and replace them with a new elite.
By vote, of course. But not by the narrow-minded vote offered by the anti-popular electoral law of the two establishment parties.
The pillar of the protest is the youth. They have defined their cause and have decided to give themselves to it with all their heart and soul.
As befits every generation that at a certain moment decides not to vegetate by leaving its fate in the hands of the autocracy, or the elders who do not know how to leave (gerontocracy).
There are also other ages in protest, who take the floor to tell personal stories or proclaim political slogans of a certain current. The Agora has this. Each one their own and everyone around the unifier.
But the young men and women of the youth band have given their voice and will continue to give it. A band that in our time covers two decades - high school students, students, graduates at home and abroad, professionals in the private sector, but also in the public sector, workers in crafts, the unemployed.
They are the epitome of the longest-running protest in Albania's history, the torch that keeps the flame burning with the certain potential to become a blaze whenever a major national meeting is scheduled.
Those who live in Albania have been presented with the dilemma of “to leave or to stay” in this great encounter with history.
Those who have fled into exile have been presented with the dilemma of “to continue to remain as immigrants in foreign lands, or to return to populate and save our blessed country”? The protest in which they participate is their answer. They want to stay. They want to return. They want to take their destiny into their own hands.
They are the soldiers of Salamis, a global metaphor that was born to show the vanguard that opens a new path in history.
The new path in our country is participatory democracy, against the exclusion of the people from the regime that bears the name of the people, against the personalization of power by the prime minister, against the siege of elections by the state party, against the sterilization of elections with closed lists, against political-economic-criminal castes in symbiosis with each other, proven by a number of criminal investigations by SPAK.
The new path is Albania in Europe, which has as a condition the standards not on paper, but in implementation. Standards without turning a blind eye for geopolitical reasons in the context of the rediscovery of EU-US cohesion.
This means that with a political elite increasingly tainted by corruption affairs, Albania's entry into the EU seriously risks remaining a mirage.
Taking to the streets for European standards with deeds, citizens in protest and especially the youth, are the vanguard actors of integration. Europe is recognizing them as such and will continue to support them with great intensity.
For many, many years, analysts and free politicians in Albania have raised with concern the risk of democracy being suffocated by the Berisha-Rama plural caste. How? By making the theater of democracy with “strong” words, with “wild” accusations, but by already consensually strengthening themselves at the head of their respective political barracks with their electoral league of closed lists and with other meeting points of mutual interest on the air. This
type of relationship, as well as Berisha's stay at the helm as eternal, have only diminished the DP. The youth and the people of protest are, in their entirety, the opposition people that the DP lacks. In the scenario of its real renewal and reform, the DP would have held the banner of protest and victory.
This type of relationship has done even greater damage to Rama, lulling him into the lethargic thought that with an opposition led by Berisha, there is no one to take power, no matter what he does.
Thus, it has lost the mirror and real opposition pressure, being released without hands on the sweet course of extreme personalization of power. The Zvernec episode was the perfect synthesis of this personalism, as if a very clever mind had written it by hand. In fact, something smarter had written it, which is the nature of things, the drop of water that spills the glass, the big rabbit that comes out of the small thorn, the oppression that breaks when it thickens.
Another prime minister, who would not have lost so much contact with living reality in the so-called solitude of the peaks, might have found the protest and youth to be as lost as the absent opposition.
Unfortunately, he saw it as a conspiracy against him, as a great injustice done to him personally. Therefore, he invests as much as possible in its reduction and extinction, proving the cosmic distance with its deep motives.
In 1990, the young generation conceived of Albania as all of Europe. The dream lost much of its genuineness in the labyrinths of post-communist governments that put their power over the popular youth aspiration. The path of integration knew many breaks, betrayals, and delays. Generations of young people were sacrificed to the ruling class within the parties-barracks.
It seems that the current young generation has learned its lessons. It has stepped onto the stage of history to direct destiny on the right path. The new Albania is the solution and the new choice of the elites' turnover and the taking of responsibilities by the generation of young men and women. Nothing can turn it back, once it took shape and filled their hearts./ Mapo
