About 16 million kg of pork from Brazil, the European Union banned it, Albania continues to import in bulk

Pork is one of the favorite products for Albanians. In the last three years alone, citizens have consumed approximately 16 million kg of pork from Brazil.

Unlike the EU, pork from Brazil will continue to be part of the Albanian consumer's table. Meanwhile, the Europeans, since September 3, have banned any shipment of Brazilian meat, as it is suspected that veterinary medications that rapidly increase muscle mass are applied to animals and poultry.

While the Ministry of Agriculture has made this decision only for beef and poultry, and not for pork. Top Channel has managed to secure the amount of pork from Brazil for the last three years.

To be precise, in 2024, Albanians consumed 6.4 million kg of frozen, boneless pork, worth 1.3 billion lek. If we do a simple calculation, 1 kg of pork from Brazil cost traders an average of 212 lek/kg, or 2 euros and 10 cents.

In 2025, even though pork prices fell, Albanians consumed approximately 1 million kg less pork. The 5.3 million kg of Brazilian pork this time cost an average of 1.1 billion lek, with the price per kilogram reaching an average of 209 lek/kg, or about 2 euros.

Meanwhile, from January to August 2026, 4.1 million kg of pork from Brazil were imported into Albania. This time, this product cost meat wholesalers approximately 193 lek/kg, or about 1 euro and 90 cents.

All of this product is not only marketed in the form of fresh meat, but it also comes to citizens in the form of processed products, such as ham or creamed beef.
