Fire engulfs apartment in Saranda, elderly couple transported to hospital after asphyxiation

A fire has engulfed an apartment in neighborhood no. 1 of Saranda, injuring two elderly people. The incident occurred at around 01.15.

The elderly couple Kristaq Zhupali and Ksanthipi Zhupali, 83 and 72 years old respectively, suffered asphyxiation from the flames and were slightly injured, and were taken to Saranda Hospital for treatment.

The fire department had to intervene to isolate the fire and extinguish it. It is initially believed that the cause was a defect in the cooking stove. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
