The Supreme Court rejects the appeal, life imprisonment for Laert Haxhiu

The Supreme Court rejected Laert Haxhiu 's appeal this Tuesday (May 19, 2026) , leaving the life imprisonment sentence in effect.

The third instance of the judiciary rejected his request to overturn the decision of the Special Appeal.

The decision was given by a panel of judges composed of Ilir Panda, Sokol Binaj and Sander Simoni.

Haxhiu has been found guilty of the "Lushnja Massacre", an event that occurred in 2017, in which Zamir Latifi and Jurgen Hoxha were killed, while Bujar Turku and Marius Xhepexhiu were also injured.

Orgest Bilbili and Anterio Kaloshi were also sentenced to life imprisonment for the same case.

The convicts are charged with the criminal offenses of "Murder under qualifying circumstances of one or more persons", "Committing criminal offenses within the framework of a criminal group", "Unlicensed possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition", and "Disturbing public peace".
