The Embassy in Tirana shares Marco Rubio's message: A country that does not

The United States Embassy in Tirana has distributed a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, emphasizing that foreign policy cannot be seen in isolation from economic power, border control, and energy security.

The message does not specify a particular country or government, but comes at a time when these issues are part of the debate in Albania as well.

But the country is engulfed by protests that have been taking place for more than 2 months in Tirana, but also in the Diaspora.

Albanians demand the non-negotiable resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

"Foreign policy cannot be separated from economic policy, border policy, energy policy, or any other area that is critical to our national interests."

Rubio then links the power of a state to its ability to produce for itself, control its borders, and guarantee access to strategic resources. The statement is part of his argument for reorienting American foreign policy toward what he calls the real foundations of national power.

"A country that is unable to build ships, produce medicines, control immigration or ensure access to vital resources cannot protect its people, cannot defend its interests and cannot protect its way of life."

Secretary Rubio's message aligns national security with the economy, energy, border control, and access to strategic resources, reflecting the US administration's approach that these areas are directly part of the national interest.
