Eric Wendt confirmed as next US ambassador to Albania

Retired General Eric Wendt has been confirmed as the next US ambassador to Albania, with the Albanian government welcoming his appointment.
Wendt is expected to take up his post in Tirana, where he will focus on strengthening US-Albania security cooperation, supporting a stronger NATO alliance, and promoting closer economic ties between the two countries.
His appointment comes at a time when U.S.-Albania relations remain closely focused on defense and security cooperation, with Albania a NATO member since 2009 and a long-standing U.S. partner in the region. Wendt’s military experience is therefore particularly relevant to the role, as Washington and Tirana continue to pay strong attention to collective security and NATO’s role in the Western Balkans.
Albanian authorities said they look forward to welcoming Wendt and working with him to advance President Donald Trump's priorities on shared security, NATO, and fair opportunities for American businesses.
