Consultations/ Selenica Municipal Council meets, Mayor Bellaj against unification with Vlora: The Municipality should remain independent

The Selenica Municipal Council has convened in an extraordinary session, where the focus of discussions was the project for the merger of the Municipality of Selenica with the Municipality of Vlora.

During the meeting, the mayor of Selenica, Nertil Bellaj, expressed his opposition to this initiative, arguing that Selenica should continue to function as a separate local unit.

According to Bellaj, unification with Vlora would violate the representation of the residents and would affect the development of the area. He emphasized that Selenica has its own identity, territory and specific needs, which, according to him, require an independent administration.

The mayor stated that he will continue to oppose the unification project and protect the interests of the residents of the Selenica Municipality.

The discussion on territorial reorganization is expected to continue within the framework of consultations and positions of local units affected by the proposal.
