Over 300 hectares in Lura National Park burned, criminal proceedings against the monitoring chief and two environmental guards

Three employees in Dibër have been criminally prosecuted for abuse of power, in connection with the fire that engulfed the Lura National Park.

According to the police report, the chief of park monitoring and two environmental guards are suspected of abusing their duties by failing to take the necessary measures to monitor and protect the territory from fire, resulting in the burning of over 300 hectares of forest.

Meanwhile, we recall that the fire in the Lura National Park has been active for four days, while the flames are covering large areas of forests and pastures. According to media sources, in recent hours the fire has spread towards the village of Borie, endangering the homes in the area.

Police announcement:

"Lura, Dibër/Investigations continue to bring to criminal responsibility the citizens responsible for the fire in the Lura National Park.

The head of park monitoring and 2 environmental guards are being prosecuted for abuse of power.

Following the investigative and procedural actions carried out to document the circumstances of the fire in the Lura National Park, the Crime Investigation specialists of the Dibër Police Commissariat referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office, where proceedings were initiated at large, for the criminal offense of "Abuse of Office", against citizens KS, 35 years old, SL, 51 years old, both residents of Dibër, and AL, 64 years old, resident of Tirana.

Investigations suspect that these citizens, with respective duties as National Park Monitoring Chief and Environmental Ranger, have not taken the necessary measures for the preservation, supervision and fire protection of the territory under their responsibility. As a result, several hectares of forest area have been burned.

"Work continues intensively to identify and bring to criminal responsibility the perpetrator(s) of this case. The procedural materials were referred to the Dibra Prosecutor's Office for further action."
