Boat explosion in Porto Palermo, two of the injured with burns on 50% of their bodies

Two of the four people injured in the boat explosion in Porto Palermo are receiving treatment at the Burns and Plastic Surgery service at the QSUT.

These are Xhemal Ismailaj, 40 years old, and Mateo Merdanaj, 25 years old, who, according to sources, have suffered multiple burns on various parts of their bodies, covering about 50% of their body surface.

Their health condition appears to be stabilized, while due to the severity of their injuries, recovery and rehabilitation are expected to be long. Both continue to remain under constant medical monitoring.

The other two injured, 18-year-old Aleks Doda and 38-year-old Ardinant Qeziu, are receiving treatment at Vlora Hospital.

The serious incident occurred while the four people were working to repair the boat's engine while the vehicle was at sea. Preliminary suspicions are that a gasoline leak may have caused the flames to spread and then the explosion.

Authorities have launched investigations to uncover the full circumstances of the explosion and determine the cause of the incident.
