This is the British couple who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash on the Greek island of Sifnos the day before. Alexander Cromie, 31, and Marie Ebert, 30, both from London, had travelled to Greece for their honeymoon, but their trip ended in tragedy.
The couple had recently married and had chartered a private helicopter to travel from Markopoulo to Sifnos. The helicopter crashed on Monday afternoon, just minutes before it was scheduled to land at the island's helipad.
The 53-year-old Greek pilot, Giorgos Raikos, a former Air Force officer with extensive flying experience, also died in the accident.
Cromie worked in Blackstone's London office, where he held the position of vice president in the private wealth solutions sector. Following the news of his and his wife's deaths, the firm expressed its sorrow for their loss.
"We are devastated by the tragic deaths of three people, including our colleague Alex Cromie and his wife Marie Ebert, who were celebrating their honeymoon," Blackstone told the *Daily Mail*.
According to reports, the pilot had communicated with the relevant services shortly before landing, but then the radio went silent. Security cameras captured the Bell 206 helicopter losing control and altitude, before crashing into the ground and bursting into flames.
Local residents reported hearing an unusual noise from the helicopter shortly before it crashed. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but there was no chance of saving the three people on board.
The deputy mayor of Sifnos, Manolis Fountoulakis, described the scene found by rescue teams as extremely serious.
"There was nothing left, a shapeless mass, inside which must have been the two charred bodies," he said.
Meanwhile, Greek authorities have launched investigations to determine the causes of the crash. One of the runways being examined is linked to a possible mechanical problem, after witnesses reported a loud and unusual noise shortly before the accident.
The mayor of Sifnos, Maria Nadali, described the event as a tragedy that has shocked the entire island.
"It is a shocking event. We are shocked and are trying, together with the competent services, to manage the consequences of this incident ," she told local media.
