Murder of Ardian Nikulaj/Extradition of the observation group, the Supreme Court in London accepts Albania's appeal

Albanian justice has taken another step in its efforts to extradite from England to Albania the five suspects accused of involvement in the execution of businessman Ardian Nikulaj.
A spokeswoman for the Supreme Court in London confirmed to Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu that this court has already accepted the Albanian state's request to appeal the High Court's decision, which blocked the extradition.
They are Lord Lloyd-Jones, Lord Burrows and Lady Rose, the three members of the English Supreme Court, who gave the green light to the Albanian justice in the request for appeal.
In the coming months, this court will examine whether the decision of the High Court in London, which blocked the extradition at the request of the defense, was correct, after Yvette Cooper, the former Secretary of State for Home Affairs, had misnamed the charges when issuing the extradition certificates.
In August 2024, the Extradition Court in London accepted Albania's request to extradite Edmond Haxhina, Harry Simpson, Thomas Mithan, Steven Hunt, Harriet Bridgeman, on charges of "premeditated murder".
But, as Top Channel exclusively reported, the Secretary of State mistakenly included the old charges of "Murder due to blood feud" and "Unlicensed production and possession of weapons and ammunition" in the extradition certificate.
Then, in May 2026, the Supreme Court accepted the appeals of the five, based on the discrepancy between the extradition requests and what the Secretary of State had signed, and, as a result, the extradition orders were quashed.
Edmond Haxhia, Thomas Mithan, Harry Simpson and Steven Hunt, who remain in custody in London, while Harriet Bridgeman is free on bail, are accused on suspicion of participating in a plan that led to the murder of Ardian Nikulaj.
For this murder, a few months ago, the Lezha Court sentenced Ruben Saraiva to life imprisonment.
