Trump blames Biden and Zelensky for war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump today accused his predecessor Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of failing to prevent the war in Ukraine.

"President Zelensky and Joe Biden did an absolutely terrible job - allowing this nonsense to begin," Trump wrote on his "Social Truth" platform.

"There were so many ways to prevent it from starting," Trump added without giving details on how the invasion ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2022 could have been stopped.

"The war between Russia and Ukraine is Biden's war, not his," Trump said.

He said he had recently taken office and that he had no problem preventing war during his previous term, as Putin respects him.

The US president is pushing for a deal to end the war and maintains close ties with the Kremlin through his special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

The agreement envisioned by the Trump administration corresponds in some ways to Moscow's aspirations: Ukraine would give up its aspirations to join NATO, and American soldiers would not be part of a potential peacekeeping force.
