TikTok makes big changes to break teens' addiction to the app

Popular social networking platform TikTok has introduced a new initiative called Wind Down, which aims to help users under 16 reduce their use of the app before bedtime.

This new tool will automatically activate after 10 p.m., interrupting the flow of videos on the profile, locking the screen and playing relaxing music. Initially, users will have the option to continue browsing or stop using the app. If they choose to continue, a second reminder will appear shortly, which is harder to ignore.

TikTok also announced that in the coming weeks it will also begin testing the introduction of meditation exercises as part of this initiative, based on studies showing that meditation improves sleep quality.

This is the first time a social media platform has directly added such an awareness tool to its users. In addition to Wind Down, TikTok has also introduced Time Away, which allows parents to limit teens' access to the app during certain times of the day, such as during family meals, school, or recess.

Additionally, with the new Family Pairing feature, parents will be able to see which people follow their children, who follows them, and which accounts they have blocked.

Internet safety experts say this will help parents better monitor their children's online activity and help them develop healthy digital habits./ A2CNN
