Operation/ Hidden inside chicken, 41 kg of cocaine seized in Durrës

Another attempt to smuggle cocaine into Albania through the Port of Durres has been foiled by the Police. Within a month, authorities have uncovered three cases of attempted drug trafficking through the port.

As part of the operation codenamed "Anchor 3", the Police have seized 41 kilograms and 350 grams of cocaine, with an estimated market value of around 2 million euros.

The operation was carried out by the Narcotics Investigation Sector in Durres, in cooperation with the Local Directorate for Border and Migration and the customs structures of the Port of Durres, during investigations into a suspected case of narcotics trafficking.

According to the Police, the drugs were discovered during a detailed inspection of a container originating from Brazil, which, based on the accompanying documentation, was declared to be transporting chicken meat.

The search revealed 37 packages of suspected cocaine hidden in the outer lids of the container. The total quantity seized was 41.35 kilograms.

Meanwhile, investigations continue to unravel the entire scheme, including the origin and destination of the drugs, as well as to identify and capture the persons involved in this criminal activity.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action.
