Tragedy in New York, 56-year-old Albanian woman dies after falling into manhole

A serious incident has occurred in New York, where a 56-year-old Albanian woman lost her life after falling into an uncovered manhole in the middle of the street.
The victim has been identified as Donike Gocaj, who had parked her Mercedes-Benz SUV near the manhole on Monday evening and fell into it as soon as she got out of the car.
According to media reports, the 56-year-old woman was pulled from the well by firefighters and immediately transported to the hospital, but was unfortunately pronounced dead.
Public utility company Con Edison said security camera footage showed the manhole cover had been displaced by a multi-axle truck that had driven over it about 12 minutes before the tragic incident.
"We are reviewing the details and, while this is a rare event, manhole covers can be displaced by heavy vehicles," a Con Edison spokesperson said in a statement.
"Our thoughts remain with her family and safety remains our top priority."
An eyewitness told the media that she saw the woman fall into the ditch just moments after she left her vehicle.
"She was in the hole, screaming that she was dying. She kept saying, 'I'm dying, I'm dying,'" the witness confessed.
